Reading schemes... First post, please help!

Hello,

 

Have just moved into Reception from Y1, and have been preparing to send books home with children for next week. Had a really good look at the reading scheme books currently used in Reception and they are not good, do not correspond AT ALL with the new phonics programme we have recently started Read Write Inc... Does anyone know if there are any good reading schemes for Rec/early reading that correspond with Read Write Inc and/or at least Letters & Sounds? Any help/ideas much appreciated.

Hi if you are doing read write inc and stuck for what to send home what about the ditties? ( read write inc photocopy master book) I resist sending home books until children are blending well but send photocopied ditty sheets home until then. We are similarly stuck for good quality reading books that are phonics based and the ditties bridge the gap until they are able to read our other books.

The book bands book from CLPE shows how most current schemes meet the letters and sounds phases so you can band whatever books you have.

If you have to use a scheme Oxford reading tree is head and shoulders above the rest and they have been quick off the mark to produce new material in line with letters and sounds. Julia Donaldson has written some of their new stuff and no I don't get a commission from them!

We use the Oxford reading tree songbirds scheme. They are great and we made to support letters and sounds. Parents love them to because it give them information on what to do with their child
