A simple thing that we do to encourage the children to recognise coins is to get them to 'pay' for their snack every day - we put up a sign e.g "Today, snacks are 5p" and the children happily choose the correct fake money coin. We change the coin every day and sometimes ask for multiple coin payments e.g. 3p or 4p. This is developed during the year by having different prices for different fruit / milk so it really works like a shop - it runs itself really.
