Nursery And Reception Assessments

Hi,

I am responsible for overseeing a nursery class and a reception class. We are trying to formulate some kind of progress sheet / assessment which can be used for the 2 years children are with us.

We obviously use FSP in reception - is this enough or should there be more?

And what can we use in nursery?

We have tried creating sheets using development matters but these seem to turn into 16 pages of tick sheets - not good when there are 50 nursery children.

Basically - what do you use and are OFSTED happy with it?!

I used to work as deputy supervisor at a pre-school and now work as a TA in a mixed age class with reception, YR1 and YR2.

In both settings we have learning journeys of photographic evidence and observations of children's development plus FSP in the school environment.

In the pre-school at the front of the learning journeys we had a progression sheet which are the point from the EYFS and signed off as they reach each point.

The development sheets are nice to use with learning journeys - basically lots of photographic and observations through a child's play and development. The learning journeys can pick out where a child may be struggling or strong in an area. Especially from a glance at the progression sheet.

The tick charts can be signed off and page numbered to match the observation or photograph and vice versa i.e on the photograph and annetotes {if that's how you spell it lol} which could be highlighted for the term {choose different colour for each term and do a key} or put PSE shows an interest in building relationships with peers on them etc.

The only problem is time management as learning journeys can be so time consuming!!! The tick charts are useful in colour coding for the terms.

Hope this helps

Sorry
