Guest
Can anyone help. I have heard of a scheme that has been written by someone linked to Letters and sounds but also incorporates reading and writing The letters and sounds comes in phases. Phase one is targeted at preschool age, phase two reception etc etc. The concept of letters and sounds is basically highlighting the tools children need to develop in order to read and write. I use letters and sounds and think it is a fantastic document. I only use phase one and have learnt a little about phase 2 so couldn't tell you about the other phases, but I am sure they will bring together reading and writing, as the document was made to improve children's reading and writing skills. Hope this helps

HappyMaz
Hi I have since found out the scheme is called Read Write Inc. Does anyone in Reception use it? I'm sure this has been discussed fairly recently on the Forum. Have you tried a Forum search? Maz
Marion
Read Write Inc pre dates Letters & Sounds and is a synthetic phonics programme written by Ruth Miskin . It's an expensive product published by Oxford Union Press http://www.oup.com/oxed/primary/rwi/aboutrwi/ It featured in the Channel 4 documentary Lost for Words Edited July 25, 2010 by Marion
Guest LornaW
Hi I have since found out the scheme is called Read Write Inc. Does anyone in Reception use it? It is very expensive and doesn't do anymore than you can with letters and sounds. It is having a lot op publicity and they are running training courses but if you follow letters and sounds, play the games and give the children plenty of opportunities for mark making you will get the same results for a lot less money - in fact you could buy a set of Community Plaything hollow blocks with your saving you can never have too many of those!!!! If you want ideas to develop writing have a look at this paper it has been really succcessful in kent. http://www.mcrel.org/pdf/literacy/scaffolding.pdf Lorna
