Guest Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Hi all! Not sure if I am posting in the correct area but here goes... I am the FS teacher/co ordinator in a primary school and wanted to know if we have to have separate EYFS policies or if we are covered by the whole school ones? I know that we need an early years policy but I am unsure as to if we need others or of we come under the 'umbrella' of the whole school. Does anyone who has been through a recent OFSTED have any ideas? I looked through the EYFS and it said ' schools will not be required to have separate policies for the EYFS provided that the requirements are met through their policies which cover children of statutory school age'. Now, as I have some ch who are still 4 in July, does that mean I need separate ones? Would appreciate any feedback many thanks in advance
Guest Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 (edited) I'm not entirely sure but didn't want you to think that no one had anything to reply with! In my school we use the same policies as the rest of the school and they are approved by the govenors, one of who's is a manager in a children's centre and knows her stuff. If she's never flagged it up I can only imagine that we are covered by the same policies?? And we had OfSted last year - one of the inspectors was EYFS specialist and didn't raise it wither. I'll have to check now though! Sorry that's not more helpful Edited June 13, 2010 by Guest

If not, try getting a paragraph added to all school policies to cover special requirements of your age group. As the policies should be used by all staff, some of whom will come into contact with your children, this is the best way to go.
