Guest Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Can someone explain to me what Outline, Standard and Linear+ mean at the top right hand side of someones post. Thanks Quote
Steve Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Hi Gwen - Leave it at standard or linear if you want forum posts to look the same as before (ie with one following another and all visible). Most of the time people read to the end of a topic then click the add reply button at the end which makes the conversation follow a natural course. Occasionally a little 'sub-conversation' breaks out if, for example, people want to welcome someone new in. In this case they will click the smaller 'add reply' button immediately following someone's post which might not be at the end. In this case if you've got the standard option clicked, you'll see that post immediately following the one they are responding to, even if they posted much later in the conversation. If you'd like to see, in a very long topic, just the brief outline of all the threads in a post, and then select which posts you'd like to concentrate on, select Outline. In this event you'll see one full post which you can change by clicking on the abbreviated headers, and the others all outlined. This is a new feature of the forum software I upgraded yesterday. Many people won't choose to change from the way they currently use the Forum, but it gives the option to people who prefer a threaded approach! Quote
