Guest
Hi everyone Has anyone got any examples of number rhymes or songs to help children practise counting in steps of 2? Apart from Mary At the Garden Gate, (Mary At the Garden Gate, 2,4,6,8, Eating cherries off a plate, 2,4,6,8) my mind has gone blank!
Thanks It's not a rhyme but mine (when I had 3-5s) liked to count in twos as a chant. We would whisper one number and "shout" (use loud voices or an action with the count) the other number, to emphasise the 2 count. BTW if you do this don't forget to start with 0 when even counting and 1 when odd counting (and yes, we did used to do the odd count and once confident they used to choose if we would count in odds or evens-which we linked to work on house numbers and delivering the post). You can also count in pairs for this (set up Noah's Ark, or count pairs of socks, shoes, boots, gloves, eyes, ears, hands, feet etc) HTH

Guest
To Jingle Bells tune Count in 2s, count in 2s, How far can we go? When we count in 2s to 20, this is how we go...oh.. 2 4 6, 8 10 12, 14 16 18, 20 is the last one now but we can start again ....oh 2 4 6, 8 10 12, 14 16 18, 20 is the last one now and we won't start again no. We also touch parts of the body as we count- 2- head 4 - shoulders 6- knees 8- toes 10- flash 10 fingers forward (as we do this for counting in 10s anyway) 12-head 14- shoulders 6 - knees 8- toes 20 - flash 10 fingers again

Guest
Just another one to add to the collection!! 2, 4, 6, 8 who do we appreciate? 10, 12, 14, 16 where have all the soldiers been? 18, 20 the parties done and the castles empty! We used to march in twos round like this and fits in well if you are loking at traditional tales! Vicky
