redjayne Posted April 2, 2010 Share Posted April 2, 2010 It makes sense that you get as many staff as possible First Aid trained - especially in an After School Club where you have staff working different days/shifts - and maybe taking small groups out during the day in the holidays etc. Can you not do a group training - mayeb two saturdays or four evenings - or failing that get people on local courses ASAP - it is important as you never know what might happen. I have 5 members of staff including myself. Of course I can get everyone on a local course - but we have not all simultaneously been trained sinced PAEdiatric First Aid came in. I used to have more staff and we then got in a tyrainer at about £20-£30 each. Now it's £50 from the LEA if I can manage to release a member of staff fot 2 consecutive days, usually no, cos my part-timers all do something else on their non-working days. It's over £100 each to go private, and with rent of £50 per day after-school and £120 per day in hols, I can't afford to pay that sort of money for our school escorts as well as staff. We used to have everyone trained on a course that was tailor-made for us by the Red Cross, so we covered children. now we have to go on a course that is 3 times as long, 3 times as expensive and covers babies and small childre - which we do not have. I would have thought that for 2 hours a week contact time (our school escorts), the type of course that we used to do would be sufficient - Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
