Guest
Hi there, I have been asked to do the appraisals for the staff in the preschool committee run setting I took over at at the start of this month. They will be held at the end of this month. I am happy to do them, and think it is an excellent chance for me to find out more about what individual staff members want out of their role etc, but an ex retail colleague of mine pointed out that they are not allowed to perform an appraisal on people they have worked with for less than 3 months - and it got me wondering should I be doing them? All the staff appear fine with me doing it, but is there a 'rule' about it? Thanks in advance Clare
Guest
Don't know about the rule but we had been planning to do the same thing with our new manager in training as I too felt it would be a great chance for her to get to know them - oh and myself and the ex manager were just far too busy last term! I will be interested to hear if you find out any more, in which case I guess I will have to conduct them and have her sit in with them. Just thinking about it I don't think my husband has ever had to wait for an appraisal just because his boss changed in the last couple of months so maybe it is a rule in your ex colleague's company. HappyMaz
I think it is probably down to each setting to make their own rules about these things, as they see fit and to suit their own circumstances... Maz
Guest
I don't think there is any rule about when you can do them, so I too guess this was just that company's policy. I can't see it would be a problem either, especially as the staff are Ok for you to do it. The main thrust of an appraisal, as I understand it, is for the staff member themselves to reflect on their own work and to then discuss a way forward for the next year. So, if that is the line you take, it shgould be an ideal opportunity to set targets etc for your first year in post. Hope they all go well Gruffalo2
