Guest
Hi, I'm a Nursery teacher in a maintained Nursery that has just joined together with a pvi nursery on the same site. Our rooms were right next to each other and we have now opened the linking door, so instead of 2 separate rooms and 2 separate outdoor areas we are one large one and are now offering the 15 hours (no set sessions, very flexibly!) We can therefore have up to 52 children in any of the 3 areas, 6 members of staff (whose lunchtimes and start/end hours vary) and all the children arriving and leaving at different times throughout the day!! Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep count (having fire nightmares!!!), and keep my staff happy - think were all bordering on a nervous breakdown!!! Thought it was improving yesterday, but then today has slipped back again and this afternoon particularly felt very chaotic! Suzib10
Beau
Do all the children now arrive by the same entrance or do you have 2 different ones on the go? What system do you currently have for signing children in and out? I have to say, it sounds like quite a logistical nightmare so whatever system you put into place has to be rigidly adhered to by everyone.
Inge
we were a much smaller PVI group with less space etc, but found with flexible start and finish times we has a problem knowing at a glance who was in and who was not, so we had a wall display of the children's names and they put their name up on arrival and removed it when they left. staff names were also displayed. we had also numbers underneath which showed the total children in the setting at any given time. this way we always knew at a glance who was in the setting.. out parents also signed children in and out as extra back up for fire etc and we always took this book with us for fire drills etc. as well as register. Im sure there is an answer out there which would be easy to set up. Inge
Guest
We have a sign in system where parents are asked to say how long the child is staying and who will pick them up. We only have one door in and out, though, and a set start and finish time for sessions. Do you channel parents in and out through one set door which is normally locked? If you do, could one member of staff be responsible at any one time for answering the doorbell and signing in or out, keeping a running total as they go on? Guest
Thank you for all your replies. Yes, have set system for coming in/out. One door in and one out and whiteboard with how many children are in at a particular time. It is beginning to get better (very slowly!!) but thanks for the tips. Will see how it goes
