Nqt Needing Advice

Hi everyone. This is my first post although i have used many of your fab ideas already!

I am in need of advice about next year. I am an NQT but will be finished NQT year in July and am most likely to be staying where i am in reception. I find out soon if i can stay or not but in the mean time have an application due in friday. I have quite a lot of responsiblity in my reception job as we run as a unit, i hold meetings, do staff rotas etc. The application i have is for Foundation Stage Leader with mps + tlr 2a. Basically am i wasting my time applying? Would love the extra responsibilty etc but just not sure firstly am i allowed to apply just after NQT year and secondly would i have any chance at all or am i too inexperienced? Thanks.

There's no reason why you can't apply.

Yes you have limited experience, but it depends what the school is looking for and by the sounds of it what you are now doing is part way towards a coordinators role.

The decision you have to make is if you want to change schools after just one year or whether you want to spend a bit more time developing your skills and enjoying teaching now your NQT year is finished. The trouble is these opportunities don't come up when your ready to change schools.

Sorry not really answered your question- probably posed more.

But what do you have to loose?

Good luck with whatever you decide.

hi gemma and welcome.

If you are set on a specialising in reception and your current school is not guaraneeing that at the moment, even for next year then you need to look elsewhere. It could be argued that you need experience of yr1 to fulfil a coordinators role and the role you are taking on should you get this particular job is huge with that TLR but who knows you might have just the skills they are looking for and you loose nothing by applying. Remember to talk to your head about this first though, it is not good etiquette to apply first.

Good luck.

Thanks. I know it is unlikey i would get it anyway but i may as well try. I have had taught 2 terms in nursery (as class teacher but before i waas qualified !) 1 term in year 1 and two terms in reception. obviously on top of that have my 4 placements which ranged from nursery to year 1. I have got experience of more than reception but obviously not very much. will prob stay where i am ive just been talked into giving it a go!
