Guest Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Im coming to the end of ny nvq level 4 and trying to get as much finished by Christmas. The question Im stuck on is.... The pattern of learning and intellectual development for the age range of the children involved in early learning for whom you are responsible If any one could offer me any help I would be really grateful - thank you
Beau Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Would this be linked to Piaget and his Stages of Cognitive Development?
JacquieL Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I'm not really familiar with NVQ4 so could be way off track with this reply. I think you could link this with the age appropriate levels of the new EYFS and talk about the expected levels of development for the age range of children you work with. Look at how all children are individuals and develop in different ways and at different rates in the areas of learning. You could discuss how prior experience affects what they already know and can do. This would not necessarily predict an outcome for a child at the end of their time with you. Relate all this to people like Piaget to show where these expectations for learning come from. Do these levels relate to his? Have the learning expectations been influenced by expectations from later stages, such as the expectations for literacy which come from KS1 and 2. Are these expectations putting pressure on younger children and would psychologists, speech therapists and paediatricians agree that they were appropriate developmentally. How would you interpret the developmental requirements when planning for your setting?
