Activity Ratios

Hi all, can someone clarify for me what are the ratios for teacher led activities/focus and child initiated activities, how much time should be spent on each? Do you feel it is possible to give equal cover to the 6 areas or are people still going to give extra time to Cll and Md? Trying to get my head around planning for September.

Im afraid I dont look at figures, Ger but at the needs of the children. Equally the curriculum should be equally weighted through all 6 areas. I actually feel quite strongly that PSE is the most important as without this development in the other areas will be slow so if I were to evaluate exactly what I was offering PSE would feature very highly especially at the beginning and maybe tail off a little towards the end.

Unfortuanately there is an expectation in schools that CLL and MD are prevalent and while I would agree that reading and writing skills are important to access the other areas of the curriculum it is about balance and opportunity.

On the EYFS site there is reference to all 6 areas being of equal importance and that there should be an equal balance of child/adult led activities. Somewher i have read that it should be more like 70% to 30% but can't find the refernce just now. When i do I will post it on here.

If you think about it carefully there are so many links between the curriculum ares that they are not taught very often in isolation and so one activity can be addressing many areas if you do your planning carefully you can easily balance the areas out.
