Do You Lend Resources To Parents?

Just wondered if your centre lends parents books etc and how you monitor it/ensure you get them back? We are thinking of making activity bags that contain games or stories but any other ideas gratefully received. We don't have the space for a toy library at present

Im not in CC but when we operated a video lending library in the school where I worked, the parents paid a small joining fee and a borrowing charge to help offset any loses. I think one of them was on a refundable deposit type system so parents on low incomes were not penalised.

Am in a Pre-School. We lend books out weekly in Zip wallets. We record the title of the book and when it went out. We do not charge anything. If a book is damaged or drawn on, most parents are mortified and offer to buy a replacement.

We have a story sack system and have had some success with it. Based on trust and honesty, the parents are left to record the comings and goings in a book. We initially charged £5 to offset damage and replacement but found at the end of the first year that nothing needed replacement. Yea parents!!

Since those parents who paid the £5 had left we were able to buy more books and resources and decided to drop the charge. Trust and honesty still works and most parents will admit when something is broken and replace it. :o
