Do you teach the short oo sound (book) and the long oo sound (moon) together or seperately over 2 days? Think this is what I am going to do when Ofsted are in but not sure whether to do them together or not. Please reply asap!!!!! Thanks!!

Any fab ideas of how you taught it would be great too, but the Letters and Sounds dvd has given me some starters

Hi,

I teach them together because I use the JP actions and there is a joint action for oo and oo.

I teach them together.

oo as in book

oo as in moon

We have a picture card showing the word and picture on one side and the phonic sound on the other, also use jolly phonic action.

we do them together too for the Jolly Phonics. I've taught it throught the action and then got the children to sort objects/pictures with the sounds in e.g. book, hook, foot, soot, look, moon, spoon, broom, loop etc

I introduce them both on the same day. Then focus on one (tends to be the long version) for the first day and do activities linked to it. Then next day look at short version the next day, recapping the long one and possibly a third day looking at both of them.

...and for many of our children (and my dad, come to that), "book" and "look" are pronounced "bewk" and "lewk". Makes it all very interesting!
