Guest Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Hello What in your opinion is an excellent teacher? Have to write an essay on this and any thoughts would be welcome as I know this forum contains many, many many excellent teachers! Thank you Amanda Quote
Deb Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 An excellent teacher is someone who inspires children to want to learn, someone who can treat each child as an individual, and build on their strengths, someone who sets reasonable boundaries and is fair. Will that get you started? Quote
Rea Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 A teacher who understands their own subject and allows questions. Shows enthusiasm and uses different methods to get you to understand, rather than 'do as I say'. Quote
Running Bunny Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 When I did my initial teacher training, we were taught that we were 'faciliatators on a child's journey through life and learning'. Even though I didn't go into teaching, this stayed with me through my career in Early Years. Plus all the usual things - enthusiasm, zest for life, recognising each child as an individual and what that brings to the classroom, and being a good listener and being able to respond to what you hear. Guest Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Ask the children - they'll know! I used to teach year 6 - as well as the things that other people have said - they used to like boundaries. They also liked achievable challenges - one boy said to me that it made him feel good about himself as he really felt like he had achieved. Quote
