hi all

we've decided we dont like the format of our files!

its lots of tick boxes which have all the information but when it comes down to sharing with parents on open eve's the parents cant be bothered to read all through the boxes,

dont get me wrong! most want to know how their child is doing but you know how boring paper work is to do let alone read!!

i feel like i'm waffling now! anyway i have found an old system from 2001 it uses caterpillar pictures that you shade when child acheived that part.

its called 'starting out'

does anyone know it?

is it far too old or do you think it would be ok if i adapted it a bit?

We used similar for a while but found it a bit rigid and not flexible enough and with new EYFS next year may be worth incorporating some of that into any new format you decide on.

 

Ours has the statements in it but for mainly for reference and we use comments, quick observations and lots and lots of photos to go in the files. makes it more interesting for parent to read something the child has done like' dressed up and played with xxxx making a picnic talking about yyyyyy' or similar , key workers put this in book under appropriate area of learning. It also includes work done by the child (if we can prise it off them), and each area has a place to put in any next steps to be used in planning. We are currently trying a format using EYFS and Helens EYFS child record in Resource file (Thank you Helen saved me hours of work!!) with blank pages for recording observations pictures etc ..so far so good, staff like the format as it is clear and easy to understand...next to see how parents feel!
