Guest Posted April 30, 2004 Posted April 30, 2004 All this discussion of policies is making my head spin. Anyway, it reminded me of a policy that I wrote one Sunday afternoon just before OFSTED visited, when I was overwhelmed by the prospect of writing yet another policy. It was entitled 'Policy writing policy'. I wish I'd kept a copy, as it was very witty (although I say it myself). But the funniest thing was that when I photocopied it and put a copy in each staff member's tray, not one person queried it. They all filed it in their policy files to refer to in future. Now, I'm not sure now how funny that is. Maybe it's just a stark reminder of how policy-crazy we had all become........ Or maybe nowadays you do have to have a Policy writing policy.....
Beau Posted April 30, 2004 Posted April 30, 2004 No more policies please!!!! Our policy folder is so weighty now we need to reinforce the noticeboard to put it up. No one can be bothered to read them either because there's so many. Makes a nonsense of having the policies. Now you'll have to write another version Nicola so we can all see the funny side.
Guest Posted April 30, 2004 Posted April 30, 2004 Very amusing Nicola!!! Especially the staff just accepting it! I'm sure mine would as well as we have that many policies one more wouldn't make a difference no matter what its title!!!!! Linda
Sue R Posted April 30, 2004 Posted April 30, 2004 I once did that with the termly planning when I was in a pre-school. I gave them all their copy, with usual supporting stuff for festivals etc that were upcoming, only I put in one of those joke email things that are always popping up. This was Autumn term and the 'joke' was a 'recipe' for fruit cake where every second instruction was to drink a glass of sherry to check it hadn't gone off. Not one of 9 members of staff commented! I did wonder what their Christmas cakes were like that year..... Just recently I referred to the incident to a staff member I have remained in touch and good friends with - she said she'd decided I'd finally lost it (! ), but as no one else mentioned it, she thought she'd better keep quiet. Talk about wasting effort ! Sue
Guest Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 As we have so many policies we have an agreed format on writing a policy, it includes the aims and objectives of the policy, font, format, headings, use of paragraph numbers and page numbers.
