Hi!
Please can I ask for some advice regarding DSL training? I am the manager of the setting but my deputy manager and one of my room leaders are DSL lead and deputy DSL.
When they were last on training, they were told that their manager had to attend the modules 1 and 2 training aswell. I totally see the logic in this as I understand that my safeguarding knowledge needs to be sound but not once have I ever known or been told this by anybody (otherwise I would be DSL myself).
When I questioned this, I was told that even though it wasn't a necessity, I should do it for good practice (I have done modules 1 and 2 but a long time ago). Anyway, I booked myself onto the training and went today to only not be able to park anywhere (nightmare!!!!)- but I am now wondering if it's worth re-booking at all?
Sorry, I know this is a bit of a waffle! Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated

Hi Rebecca,
Sorry for my delayed response. We use EyLog (very similar to Tapestry) and place all the children's nappies/sleeps etc on there. However, we also have a daily record sheet/sleep charts (on paper) for our use to jot things down and sign nappy changes /checks when sleeping etc. I quite like this idea as I feel it 'covers ourselves'. I was just wondering whether these had to be scanned in as well as keeping the paper copy?
Thanks for your reply

Hi everyone
I wonder if anyone can give me advice. Every nursery I have worked at, there are different rules regarding scanning daily record charts. Some places don't but obviously keep a file of them all (without scanning them in).
What do you all do?
Thank you!

Hi all
I have a staff member joining us next week who is on the update service but has lost their DBS certificate. Her employer has sent over her dbs number so I can still check/search on the update service but do I need her actual certificate?
Thanks

We look forward to hearing from you!

Thank you so much- I think a lot of nurseries have different rules/policy in regards to their sleepers etc but this is exactly what I have followed before. Thank you!

Hi all,
Please can someone give me some advice on their sleep rooms regarding being able to see the children? Settings I've worked at before have different policies such as: member of staff being in there at all times, 5 min checks, camera monitors etc but I just wanted to see what you all thought was best? Do we need a glass panel in the door if we do 5 min checks/camera monitor etc?
Thanks so much!
Apprentice hours
in Practice and Provision: General issues
Posted
Hi all,
We are in the process of preparing to advertise for our first apprentice and I wanted to grab some advice off here. I understand that apprentices under 18 cannot work for more than 8 hours per day OR over 40 hours per week. We ideally need the apprentice to work 3 long days (7.15-6.15), 1 shorter day (7.15-1.15) and one day off (we will of course entitle them to the necessary breaks etc).
Am I able to employ them for the longer days? I know that it is over the 8 hours a day BUT they are working less than the 40 hours throughout the whole week? I really want to make sure that I am getting right!
Any advice would be much appreciated
TIA
