Hiya, im just wondering how all of you feel about 'Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development'? I've got to do a presentation about this and would like to focus part of it on early years, as this is my specialist subject.

Im looking at things like: how you feel it is regarded throughout the curriculum, and how it is regarded within your settings.

Im of the opinion that within early years smsc is everywhere and i think that it should be highly regarded because it helps to shape us as people.

hopefully you'll have some excellent ideas that i can use???!!!

In my view, the main reason we have children's nurseries! Even if children learned nothing else at an early years setting, their SMSC development is crucial. This is brought about by caring relationships with key people, guidance and nurturing in social interaction and behaviour, and by adults who build the children's self-esteem through inclusive practice and respect. In good settings, the practitioners model the behaviours they would most like to see from the children.

When you've written up your presentation, how about sharing it with us? :D:D:D

I'd say that it is definitely the most important area of a child's development that we should be supporting!
