Hi,

I'm new to this site so forgive me if i just introduce myself.

I'm Mandy and i live in Derby in the East Midlands. I am a Registered childminder and Accredited to provide NEG funded places.

Here in Derby, funding is available to all 3 and 4 year olds from the term after their 3rd birthday and it has been so for the past 2 years.

I am currently recieving the NEG for one 3 year old but i also childmind a 15 month old and an 11 month old.

I cant believe how many different variations there regarding the nursery grant. I'm in Stockport - Hi Linda! We don't seem to do too badly compared with other parts of the country. We get 33 weeks of funding but if a child does not take all 5 a week I think we can extend the weeks until that child has used the funding or we could last term. Funding for three years olds will come in universally for the term after the children are 3 from April. This will make a huge difference to most of us as all our neighbouring authorities already have this in place.

My concern is the differing rates paid by different authorities, also if the DFEE are going to fund 'time 'rather than give an actual nursery grant irrespective of indiviual hourly rates more expensive settings will receive much more than inexpensive ones (ie pre-schools)...maybe we should all increase our fees!!!!

In Blackburn with Darwen we get the funding the term after the children are three.

Adverts do say free nursery education for all three year olds but its only in the small print where it says the funding is for the term after they are three and for 11 weeks per term, so if your term is 15 weeks you have to charge or absorb the loss.
