Positive Rules

Hi all,

I'm trying to write up my nursery rules for my pre-school room, but i am finding it difficult to keep them positive!

I have:

Kind Hands - Sharing

Kind feet - Walk inside

Kind mouths - Talk quietly

Kind ears - Listen

Can only think of negatives otherwise, so any help gratefully received.

I bought a set from The Pedagogs which are very child friendly

We all join in when it is tidy up time

We say please

We say thank you

We sit smartly

We use our eyes to show we are listening

We line up really nicely

We are polite to adults and children

We help each other when we can

We are all good at different things

We are kind it makes us feel good too

The children love the familiar characters from rewards :D I especially like the new younger characters.

We were advised in school by our behaiour specialist service to keep our rules simple and not to have too many. Therefore all those kind hands etc would be "Be kind". You can discuss all the ways children can be kind in circle time.

Also for little ones we were told to colour code them, therefore I had 2 rules in my classroom, a yellow rule and a blue rule----"we are kind"and "we try hard to do our best".

Worked for me!!!

The children at my playgroup have come up with a great set of rules. They really didn't need much prompting from me and the rules mean so much more to them because they came up with them. :D

We had a circle time when we discussed what was good behaviour. Like Carol the children came up with their own ideas and these are now our golden rules.

*oops - just noticed the Yorkshire - for any southerners, please replace 'while' with 'until'. I've only been up here 5 years and I'm talking like the natives (no offence intended to those born and bred in White Rose county)

No offence taken, wait until you live here longer. My grans lived here since the end of the second world war and can speak her native tongue (scotish) and yorkshire. :o

We have three rules outside and three rules inside.

Outside - Don't pick it, don't eat it, don't squash it.

Inside - Share, take turns, be friends.

They seem to work. Most of the time!
