Has anyone got any ideas of what I can do for a role-play area using the topic ourselves -year one?

We are in nursery but we link the ourselves topic with birthdays and we set the role play area up as a birthday party. The children talk about what they want and they make banners, decorations, hats, invitations etc. They also wrap presents.

Doctor's surgery is the one that immediately springs to mind. Could do home corner with a different culture twist - Indian house - cooking implements etc. Or home from storybook - Three Bears House, Granny's House from Little Red Riding Hood, castle of Prince Charming. Don't know whether they'd work?

off the top of my head....Hairdressers, dentists. doctors, opticians, schools and hospital

All popular and can be linked with most curriculum areas

Have you asked the children? they could probably think up far more imaginative ideas

Hi there! One idea that may work for role play area is to turn it into a Health Centre where the children could either be mums/dads pushing babies to HC and giving him/her to healthvisitor who could then weigh babies (dolls!) fill in child's health book snd check the baby's general health.

Hope this might give you ideas for next year!

Hi, check out www.earlyvision.co.uk they do 'video visits' especially for role-play and have a pack titled Ourselves, sounds like it might be exactly what you are looking for.

Good luck
