Guest Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Hi Im looking for ideas to run an open day for a day nursery, just wondering if anyone had any special ideas or experiences of particular good open days they have run/visted. Cheers 54110[/snapback] Hi there, I don't run a day Nursery but our estended hours Pre-school caters for 40 children a session. When we first opened we had an unoccupied Pre-school and set it up for visiting children with key staff at each activity to talk to parents. We specified a time and ensured they were given key info about FS and group ethos etc. As time has gone on our open days are during session times and we choose to have 6 visitors at a time (max) with a 30 - 40 min allocation. We start 15 mins after registration and finish 30 mins before closing. Visiting children are allowed to join in with most activities at some level but we do try to have the type of free activity that we know will both amuse and impress! Things that work well are: Balloons on the doors! Having a table /area where info is clearly displayed ( plus the ofsted report! Displaying a welcome board in the lobby to say hi and advise them how you want them to behave ! i.e. only staff in toilet area, no giving out sweets to the children etc!l Explaining to the other children that our visitors are here to learn about the setting and that they need to help ( Helpers badges for older children are very popular) Having a singing/story session with a bit of wow! oh..... and always always lock up your valuables!! ( we lost a camcorder!)Good Luck hope it helps. Goose Quote
