Viewing a Reflection

Recommended Posts

Posted

When you view a reflection in Tapestry, you will be able to see everything that has contributed to it, from what prompted it, to the thoughts you have had, the ideas of others, and the impact that you can see in your own practice as well as in your setting.

You can view a reflection by clicking on Reflections (1) at the top of your Tapestry screen and then selecting the one you would like to see (2).  You can search for specific reflections using a variety of categories through the Filter and Sort bar (3). When you click on this a pop-up window will open for you, allowing you to make your sort choices.

Now you are viewing a saved reflection. Let's begin by looking at the actions you can take on the right-hand side of this page. To skip to the section on viewing your reflective process, click here.

The Edit button (1) takes you back into the reflection and allows you to make changes to it.

The Export button (2) allows you to export the reflection as a PDF.

The cog button (1) opens a pop-up window with a number of options. You can view the history (2) of any changes/updates that have been made to the reflection. You can change the visibility setting (3) - you will be shown whichever visibility is not currently in use.

There is also the ability to delete the reflection here (4). Selecting this will produce a red banner that will tell you how many days there are left until the reflection will be deleted. During this deletion period you will be able to restore the reflection - the options in the cog button box will change to 'Restore as Visible to Author and Managers' and 'Restore as Visible to Author and All Staff.'

You can change the author of the reflection (5). A pop-up window will open to allow you to select from the staff members at your setting.

Clicking on Reflect (6) will take you to a new reflection that is automatically linked to the one you are viewing. Similarly, clicking on Observe (7) will take you to a new observation that is automatically linked to the reflection you are looking at.

On this page you can also make changes to the visibility of the reflection using the drop-down box (1). Choosing 'Delete' here will produce the red banner and change the selection to 'Restore...' just as it does within the cog button.

You can alter the status of your reflection using the drop-down box (2).

You can also carry out these actions from the Reflections page (1), by clicking on the 'Edit' button (2) or 'Cog' button (3) next to a specific reflection, or by ticking the boxes (4) to add your chosen action to multiple reflections.

Viewing your Reflective Process

Tapestry Reflections allows you to view the reflective journey on one page, scrolling through the process and everything that has been added to it. Let's take a look at an example and talk through what we can see:

1.This tells you whether the reflection has been edited.

2. Here you can click the link to take you back to the main Reflections page, and you can see the title of the reflection you are currently viewing.

3. The blue box tells you who the reflection is visible to.

4.  Here you can see the title of this reflection.

5. This tells you the author and the date.

6. You can 'Like' the reflection.

7. If any children have been linked to this reflection you will see them here. If not, it will say 'No Children'.

8. Now you will see any linked observations or reflections that came before you began your reflection. These are likely to have prompted your current reflection and show why you began this particular reflective journey.

9. The eye and thought bubble icons let you know whether it is a linked observation (eye) or a linked reflection (thought bubble). You will also be able to see any information relating to this linked item, for example whether it includes children, comments or likes.

10. This is your reflection! It includes what you are thinking, why you are thinking it and what you plan to do to next.

11. This is where you will see any media you may have included.

12. If any comments have been added to the reflective process you will see them here, including who made them and the date they were added.

13. There are options to 'Like' or 'Delete' the comment (from the cog button). If you made the comment you will also see the option to 'Edit'.

14. Further comments can be added here. This allows the reflection to become a conversation, with thoughtful participation from colleagues.  Don't forget to 'Add Reply'!

15. Here you can see any linked observations or reflections that came after you began your reflection.  These are likely to show the continuing journey of this particular reflection and evidence of the impact of your reflective practice.

16. If you added any flags you will see them here.

17. At some point in the reflective process you may return to edit your reflection and add the impact that you feel has been made by yourself, a group project, or the team as a whole. Once you have added the Impact you will see it here.

So that's the reflective process recorded in Tapestry! You can see that your reflection can grow along with your own and your colleagues' thoughts and ideas. Happy reflecting!
