Nurture Group

Hi

We are in the process of setting up a nurture group for our most needy children in year R. There will be between 8-10 children in the group and they will go to it f 4 sessions a week to help largely with social/ emotional development. It is going to be run by 2 teaching assistants, one of which is our SENCO.

Is there anyone who has experience of such a group in their setting. If so how did it go, how did you run it, how did the children cope back in class? Any information would be really helpful about such groups.

Hope to hear from someone soon :)

Hi

Never heard of a Nurture group but currently my teaching assistant has the following groups:

(approx 4/5 children in each for a 20 minute session twice a weeek)

FINE MOTOR SKILLS

SPEAKING AND LISTENING SKILLS

GETTING ALONG - SOCIAL SKILLS

PHYSICAL GROUP

The social skills group is a set program supplied by the LEA. The children are selected as follows:

1 child who has poor social skills and 3 good role models to model good behavior. The theme is very much sharing, turn taking, friendship all through stories and activities. It is very effective, called THE GETTING ALONG INITIATIVE supplied by DURHAM COUNTY COUNCIL.
