SandhurstStationNursery
HI, I wonder if someone can explain why this is happening. I'm looking at the latest assessments for a group of children and am wondering how a child who is 39 months is then showing as being at actual age when it's 40-60, yet above actual age when it's 30-50 months. Surely the highlighting should be the other way around!! And then in another area 30-50 is below actual age......?? Thanks Kathryn Edited September 26, 2018 by Kathryn_Waughman
EmilyTapestrySupport
Hi Kathryn, I'm sorry you are finding this confusing. It looks like you might have your summative assessment colour coding set up so it also takes the refinement into account. If this is enabled, your summative assessment will display the colour based on the refinements (emerging, developing and secure). This can then happen as the age bands themselves are not linear, there is some overlap. To explain, with this enabled, each age band is divided in three age ranges, one for each refinement. For instance, the 30-50 age band is divided as follows: 30-50 Emerging = 30-37 months 30-50 Developing = 37-43 months 30-50 Secure = 43-50 months The 40-60 age band on the other side is divided as: 40-60 Emerging = 40-47 months 40-60 Developing = 47-53 months 40-60 Secure = 53-60+ months Tapestry then compares a child's actual age, which is taken at the midpoint of the assessment period, to their assessed age band and range for the refinement. As you can see, there is some overlap between the age bands, so for example with a child of 40 months, if they were assessed as 40-60 emerging, they would show as green as this falls within the 40-47 month range. If the same child was assessed as 30-50 secure, they would show as above because their assessed age range (43-50 months) is higher than their actual age. The chart at the bottom of this tutorial shows you exactly how all the age bands are broken down. If you want to change this so Tapestry only takes a child's assessed age band into account when working out the colour coding, you just need to go to the Control Panel -> Settings -> Summative Assessments an untick the option 'Use refinements when assigning the colour coding for whether a child is above, at or below expectations'. I hope this clarifies things for you! Best wishes, Emily
