This new resource written by Nicola Burke at Early Education is free to download from the Early Education site. As with Development Matters document the author is absolutely clear that the statements should not be used as a 'tick list'. She says in the introduction:

This guidance has not been written to ensure that children are doing what they “ought” to be doing, it has been written to offer examples and possibilities of what children often naturally do and how this can be recognised, valued and nurtured.

Each page has the following footer:

Children develop at their own rates, and in their own ways. The development statements and their order should not be taken as necessary steps for individual children. They should not be used as checklists. The age/stage bands overlap because these are not fixed age boundaries but suggest a typical range of development.

I'm keen to get to grips with it and see how it works in nursery - I'm anticipating that there is much we are already doing - but also much that we could do better and some that we haven't addressed at all.
