Guest Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 What are the ways of obtaining and recording relevant information about children's communication development? I work in primary school yr3 and apart from yearly reports what else? Are the teachers supposed to do this for KS1 and 2? Any one throw any light on this?
Guest Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Do you specifically mean speaking and listening? The government produced a document about this last year (see DfES publications web site -you can download a copy off the net, but it's quite long). We keep speaking and listening records for each child and try to monitor this in different areas i.e. show and tell to whole class, small group work, drama work etc In terms of reading and writing, each haf term we do running records (KS1 and YR as appropriate), sight vocab check list, phonic check list (YR) and unsupported writing (KS1). Y2 also do regular spelling tests. We report to parents three times a year at parent evenings and provide a written end of year report. Parents are also welcomed into school at the beginning of each day as part of our open door policy and any concerns we (or the parents) may have are discussed informally during this time.
