can anyone tell me what they use to assess reading in year1?

I am filling in APP apart from my own judgements does anyone use anything else?

I would say there is no need to use anything else on top of APP since you'd just be making more work for yourself without really recording anything different.

 

Or were you looking for an alternative? We use the Hertfordshire Reading Tests which I despise but its school policy sadly.

We use PM Benchmark kit. You do a running record with each child, analyse their errors and work out the % accuracy. We find it useful.

We also use Salford Reading Test although Im not sure how to use the information or record it!

I also look at the Book band equivalence.

Our literacy coordinator PM benchmarks the children and suggests guided reading groups for them. I then use book band / NC level equivalents. Next step is to look at APP statements to see if they give a similar level too!

I haven't heard of PM Benchmarks - can anyone tell me a bit more about them?

It's produced by Nelson and is a series of texts levelled against guided reading book band to be used for assessment.
