Shared Reading (in Groups) Book Suggestions

Hi,

 

I've decided to have shared reading in groups as one of my adult led tasks each week before the children are ready to start proper guided reading sessions.

Does anyone have any suggestions of good books to use for this. I am looking to teach the children about how books work, turning pages, talking about the story etc and introducing initial sounds.

I would start with a big book to share with the group. Books that are already in your reading corner so that the children may go back to them later at child initiated time.

Does anyone do anything particular before children are ready for guided reading sessions?

I usually start this after they have all settled and I begin to have small group time all depends on the groups.

I would reinforcing the skills you are describing in groups as Guided reading!
