Alexander Technique, Anyone Tried It?

HI all

Now I'm on holiday, I can make appointments at weird times of the day, rather than rushing about after school...you know how it is?

 

This time last year I had a slippd disc, returned to work part time in Sept, full time in Dec and then no looking back.

 

I am Sooooo much better, but have heard that Alexander technique is good and very helpful. Trouble is it costss...alot. So, before I take the punge, thought I'd se if any of yuo have tried it and what you think of it.

I had a few sessions and found it quite useful but it was very expensive and I soon stopped. The "practitioner" who treated me was a little creepy which put me off and I didnt like the one to one. However, alot of it is about thinking about what you are going to do before you do it, I had a teach yourself book which was quite good. I would certainly recommend a taster session if you can find one, which is what I did initially.

I had an introductory session and found it really interesting. I didn't have any particular problems at the time...just wanted to know more about protecting my posture at the keyboard, and how to sit up and down correctly (believe me, there is a right and a wrong way!).

 

However, my dad had regular sessions for a number of months some years ago, and he absolutely swears by it. Not had any problems since because he puts into practice, every single day, what he learned in the sessions. My mum has had recent back problems and he's taught some of the techniques to her and she is on the road to recovery.
