Senco - New Person, Updating Contract

Hi all,

Can anyone advise please?

We have recently given the job of SENCO to our deputy leader. We need to amend her contract to show this. Can we just put 'refer to attached job description' or does the entire contract need to be rewritten?

Also, I've been told (I'm a new chair) that she's not had a payrise for taking on this post, wouldn't we normally expect to offer one for this, it's a big job even though we don't have lots of children with special needs.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi! Can't help you on the contract part of your question, but at our setting we offer our SENCO a 2% wage increase on completion of relevant training. As you mention, there is a lot of work involved.

I had 7 children on IEP's last summer term and it took me hours and hours to complete documents, speak to support

agencies and arrange meetings.

Our SENCO is the supervisor, we don't offer a pay rise as everyone has special responsibilities at the preschool. SENCO, Child Protection, Health and Safety Coordinator, Equal Opps Coordinator, Curriculum and Planning Coordinator, Behaviour Management Coordinator, First Aid Coordinator. Although everyone is included in all the responsibilities the named coordinator takes on responsibility for evidence collection, training needs, reviews and action planning. :o

Many thanks for your answers, could I ask whether you rewrite their contracts to include those responsibilities, or just put 'as per job description' or something like that?
