Guest
Hi everyone. Following the children's current interests I thought I might pursue a mini topic on animals next term. Has anyone got any ideas that have worked for them? Helen.
Guest
Hi, You could arrange an outing to a farm, teach the children where the animals live, what their babies are called etc.. Angie
Guest
I managed a whole term on the subject of pets, some of the activities we followed were: Visit to the local pet / garden centre. Children bought in photo's of their pets to talk about. and also their on pets, we ended up being given a budgie for the preschool. I placed a series of photo's of my pets on the display wall and asked each child to describe what they saw and what they thought the pet would say if he/she could speak, we placed these onto the display in speech bubbles. (see background in kitten pics). This was a particularly successful activity which showed the childrens thinking, abstract and language skills. The speech bubbles were later placed in the childrens learning journey files when the display came down. We also had a display of various pet foods which the children explored and categorised. We made number cards with bone shaped dog biscuits for numeracy. Children used dry pet foods in their role play kitchen and seeds in the sand tray too. We ended up with loads of hay and a stable in the preschool for role play, following one childs particular interest in horses. The song Horsey Horsey don't your stop, let your hooves go clippety clop, was a favourite song at the time. Have fun, we certainly did.
