Guest Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Hi all! I have recently come back from maternity leave and just beginning to prepare for EYFS framework. I will be working in pre-school and wondered if you follow any scheme for music, phonics and numeracy? I am aware and will be planning for the children interests but just wanted to be sure we are covering every area as we plan. Just wondered what your thoughts and experiences of these were- thanks

Guest Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 We use letters and sounds alongside jolly phonics for phonics and music express for music. We dont use a numeracy scheme.

Guest Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Hi As a previous post says, you need to get hold of a copy of Letters and Sounds. This is your bible, so to speak. It tells you what order to teach phonics and Jolly Phonics helps you to teach it. We do 10/15 mins of phonics everyday and constantly talk about the phonics we have learnt as it arises through the day when appropriate/applicable. The kids love it and gain so much confidence. We use Music Express as a basis for our music. We break up a weeks worth into 4 15 mind sessions before lunch each week. Hope this helps.
