Guest
Hi, My class are very interested in having a cafe for their role play area next term and in making pizzas and doing more cooking - from this I am going to plan a topic around food. I have started a mind map of all ideas I can. Has anyone covered this topic with reception. Any ideas of activities/lesson ideas greatly appreciated Vikkim
Susan
Not really EYFS, so moving this for you to reception/year1 curriculum. Food is a lovely topic, I covered it alongside a celebration topic and we cooked food specific to various cultural celebrations. Im sure there are lots of lovely stories that you could use too and Featherstone do a little book, "Cooking from stories". Have fun.
Guest Wolfie
Sparklebox has some nice pictoral recipes in sequence - things like cooking porridge for example.
Annie-pops
Hi we have covered food in the past (in the run up to Christmas) - although in a preschool, and its really good for covering lots of areas. Sensory creative and language development (lots of descriptive language and onomatopoeic (query spelling?!) words, scientific concepts cooling/ setting (jelly), chemical change (raw to cooked states), cultural (food for celebrations etc), writing (shopping lists and recipes. Physical and health ed. (food as fuel, healthy eating). Also links in well with traditional tales - Gingerbread Man, Enormous Turnip, Magic Porridge Pot etc, etc
