Guest Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Hello all, Loving this forum, completely addicted! I need some inspiration. My Head is retiring at the end of this term. She is truely an amazing head and person. She is the heart of our school and we want to give her a good send off. Each class have been asked to perform in any way (singing, poetry, drama etc) using a theme close to our headteacher's heart. I have chosen 'Friendship'. I really want the children to enjoy the experience and for my head to take away with her a special memory. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks Munch
Susan Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Is there anything within the SEAL materials that you could use/ adapt?
Guest Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Yes am using SEAL materials in class but looking for something more creative such as a song or poem that the whole class can perform. Thanks anyway.
Guest Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 not on 'friendship' but I love this poem which I got from a previous forum post Unity I dreamed I stood in a studio and watched two sculptors there. The clay they used was a young child's mind and they fashioned it with care. One was a Preschool teacher, the tools she used were books, music and art. The other, a parent, worked with a guiding hand and a gentle, loving heart. Day after day, the teacher toiled with touch that was deft and sure. While the parent laboured by her side and polished and smoothed it o'er. And when at last their task was done, They were proud of what they had wrought For the things they had moulded into the child Could neither be sold nor bought. And each agreed they would have failed If each had worked alone. For behind the parent stood the Preschool And behind the Preschool teacher, the home. Adapted from, Author Unknown maybe you could adapt the preschool teacher to headteacher. Peggy
Lorna Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 How about the Rainbow fish... the importance of friendship... what makes a good friend.... or even adapting one of the follow up books about the adventures of the rainbow fish.
Guest Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 'The Rainbow Fish' was the only topical book I could think of too!
Guest Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Did a nice assembly on friendship once based on Little beaver and the echo. A boat rowed across the front as it filled with lonely beavers new friends. The rest of the class were the echo .Of course we simplified the story for 'readers'
Guest Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 ooh, I love both the books mentioned. Mind you my preschoolers did find the concept of an 'echo' difficult to understand, I think they jus thought I had gone doolally repeating phrases in a funny voice. Peggy
Guest Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Hi everyone, I love that poem Peggy, that could go in the special memories book we are making. I will also look at the books mentioned and see if I can adapt for the assembly. Thanks Munch
Andreamay Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 (edited) perhaps one of the children could be the rainbow fish giving out his scales perhaps presenting the very special one to the head Edited November 3, 2007 by Andreamay
Guest Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 No further ideas I'm afraid - though both books would work well. Love that poem Peggy, I've never seen it before. Harricroft

Guest Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 I hope your head will have her hankerchief at the ready!
Guest Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 I think we will all need our hankies! She is such an inspiration we just want to send her off with a feeling of how much we all admire her.
