Hi

Good luck to you both with your studies and hope you are enjoying it :o

I have completed my Foundation Degree with the OU, finished my last course in February this year.

I chose route 2 and have have therefore done the following courses:

E123

E124

E243

E230

E115

E215

I am continuing with my studies with the OU to top up to a BA in Early Years. The new necessary level 3 course starts in January 2008 (KE312) and I am really looking forward to it.

If I can be of any help feel free to shout! xD

Thanks for the offer of help Geraldine. I start my E123 today and the E124 in Feb 08. I'm a bit nervous but have been reading a lot since I got the course materials 3 weeks ago. The first assignment 'me and my setting' seems easy enough. I haven't dared look at the other ones yet!

Good luck to everyone with whatever they are doing.

Well done to you Geraldine for your committment and 'stickability' with this type of learning. Studying on your own can be hard and even though you have a tutor and the wonderful people on this forum, it takes some guts and organisation to do as many modules and units as you have. I take my hat off to you!!

Thanks for the 'well done' dublinbay but though the study does take organisation and committment I found it was also quite addictive! :o My OU study began when they first offered the Foundation Degree and therefore all the courses I have done were 'first presentations' and I had gaps between them and really found I missed the studying! I currently have OU withdrawal syndrome having finished E215 in February this year but my next course does not start until January. There is a possibility that the OU may develop things further and be able to offer a BA (Hons) in Early Years, it is sort of in the pipeline at the moment but fingers crossed it will come to fruition.

If you haven't installed the firstclass software provided by the OU I would strongly recommend that you do! It takes a bit of getting used to but proved invaluable to me. In addition, if you are going to continue to FD with the OU there are compulsory actvities online in E115 and E215 so it is a good idea to be familiar with firstclass before you get to the later courses :(

The 'me and my setting' is quite straight forward and I am sure you will find the others not too tough xD

Hi

You are absolutely right in saying that the more you play around with firstclass the better you will get :o

When I did E115 there were some students who were not familiar with it and it did cause problems - there was an expectation that students would know how to access the relevant conference, start/respond to messages and understand the 'netiquette' guidelines but many did not. E115 and E215 have specific time slots within the course where participation in online conferencing activities both in tutor group and main conferences is compulsory and is montiored by your tutor and the course team. Putting in the groundwork now on the logistics of it all will pay dividends in the future xD Just posting and responding in the 'chat' conferences will help you get used to the format and how it all works.

Feel free to shout if you feel the need, happy to help if I can either here or feel free to PM me - good luck with it all I am sure you will be fine :(

Hi there everyone,

I'm just starting the last stage of the foundation degree - E215, and am waiting (panic, panic!!) to take my exam for U212 on the 17th. I haven't even dared to open the box for E215 yet, in case I forget even more of U212 (though not suere if that is possible...)

If I can be of any help to anyone, give a shout.

Sarah

Hi Serena,

When are you expecting to start your course and which one are you doing? My course materials arrived three weeks ago.

Maybe a phone call to the OU will sort it all out for you. Try not to panic and wait for advice from them.

Let us know the outcome.

Gerladine, thanks again for the advice on 'firstclass'. Will keep you posted! (pardon the pun!!)

xD:o

Thanks for moving me Beau, haven't posted a new topic for a while because of the studying, didn't even think about where I was posting.

Serena try not to worry too much, I seem to remember when I did E123 in February that there were a few people who were late getting their course materials. Not that that is much help to you.

Good idea to ring the OU just to ascertain what the situation is.

In the meantime, have you had your log in /user name for the online First Class website? If you have you should be able to find the study calendar and study topics on there so you could use that until your paper copy arrive if you wanted to.
