Foundation Stage Planning

I am hoping someone can help me! I am a ks2 trained teacher who has been teaching year 1 for the past few years. This year I have a new head who wants me to continue the foundation stage with my year 1's as they haven't all achieved the ELGs. I have had no experience of planning in this way and would really appreciate some advice! My topic is Toys and I have found a fab topic web but am struggling with creating weekly plans form this. I know this is a silly questions but are learning intentions the same as the stepping stones and ELGs?

 

And could someone explain if I am supposed to link all my water/sand and play etc to my topic too?

You don't need to link everything all of the time or the links get very tedious

Hi and welcome from me too! As far as your question goes about learning intentions, I always state exactly what I want the children to learn from the activity, which doesn't always relate directly to a specific stepping stone or ELG, e.g. to develop scissor skills, to sort a collection of buttons according to size/colour, etc. - not sure that they are particularly good examples but you might get the gist?! And then from that I look at different stepping stones/ELGs that we might be able to observe and assess against whilst the children are taking part in the activity - and these might will obviously cover a range, depending on the children. Hope that's clear?

Yes I think I get that, it's slowly starting to become much clearer! Still slow though!!!
