Apart from the effect on a child's self-esteem, it may make the child more anxious about having accidents, causing the child to prevent him or herself going to the toilet outside of the home. If this becomes a pattern it can result in chronic constipation and even phobic reactions to going to the toilet.

 

Much better just to change the nappy, I think!
