EmilyTapestrySupport Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 After setting the Maintained Achievement Point (MAP) for each child you can then look at making assessments using the new KS assessment model - please see this tutorial for instructions on how to add MAPs for children and this tutorial if you haven't set up the KS assessment framework on your account at all. There are two ways you can assess children against the KS1/KS2 frameworks on Tapestry, through the Formative Assessment screen and within an observation, I'll talk you through both ways in this tutorial. I'll get started with adding assessments through the Formative Assessment screen. To skip to the section on making an assessment within an observation, click here. Making an assessment using the ‘Formative Assessment’ screen To make it easier for you to make KS1/KS2 assessments on Tapestry we have developed the Formative Assessment screens. You can still make KS assessments as part of observations but this screen will make it quicker and easier for you to assess multiple children at once. We envisaged this screen being used following the completion of a topic or teaching point. So, to access this screen you just need to go to the 'Tracking' tab at the top of the page (1), select the Key Stage and year group you want to assess (2) and then click on the 'Formative View' button in the 'Formative Assessment' box (3). Then, ensuring you are looking at the correct year and period (1) and you can use the filters to select the group of children you want to make an assessment for (2). For example, you might want to select a manually added ability group from the ‘Group’ drop-down (3). Once you’ve selected a group of children you’ll then need to select the subject you want to assess them in from the ‘Subject’ drop-down (4). After selecting a subject, another option will then show up where you will need to select a subject area. If you are assessing with KS2 years 4, 5 or 6, you will notice underneath these drop-downs there is a key to show you that some statements will be highlighted as they are important for the KS2 Teacher Assessment. After selecting a subject, area and possibly aspect, all the statements for that area will appear below. Here you can select statements individually from the tick boxes (1), remember if you are assessing with KS2 years 4, 5 or 6, some statements may be highlighted to show you that they are important for the KS2 Teacher Assessment (2). You could also use the ‘select all’ button to select statements (3). This feature allows you to quickly select all the statements, if there is the odd one that you don’t want, you can just untick these individually. If you accidentally select all statements and don’t want to untick them all, you can use the ‘select no statements’ button to clear the statements (4). Once you have selected any appropriate statements you can then look at setting a tier for each child. By default each child in the group you have chosen will be selected; if you only want to assess a few children from a group you can use the 'select no children' button (1) to deselect all the children (you can use the 'select all children' (1) if you accidentally click 'select no children'). You can then use the tick boxes next to each child's name (2) to either deselect any children from the assessment or to add children if you have unticked them all. Next to each child’s name you will see their Maintained Achievement Point (MAP) (3). In the column next to this you will see the tier the child was most recently assessed in for the selected statements (4). If you click on this you will see which of the selected statements have been previously assessed and the date they were assessed. The last column is where you select which tier you want to assess the children in. You can use the option on the first line, in the row that says ‘Select Tier for Group’ (5) to select a tier to apply to all children. You can change the tiers for individual children if you want to set a child as a different level to the rest of the group just by selecting a tier from the drop-down in the row for their name (6). If any children were absent from the activity/class you can select ‘A’ instead of a tier. You must select A if a child was absent, not just leave the Tier at N, otherwise your absence data will not be correct when you come to look at the analysis. Once you are happy with the tier for each child you just need to press the ‘save’ button at the bottom of the page (7). Making an assessment in an observation Similarly to assessing using the formative assessment section we just looked at, when assessing children as part of an observation (added from the 'Observation' tab/home page of your Tapestry account) you will need to select a subject (1) and then in the section for the area you are assessing in, select any appropriate statements (2). Once you select a statement this will provide a drop-down where you can select a tier (3). You can use the ‘select all statements’ (4) if you want to assess all of them. If you want to assess each statement in the same tier you just need to select a tier next to the ‘select all statements button (5) and then click ‘apply to selected statements’ (6). Once you’ve done this, as well as added any notes or media you would like, you can save the observation.. Go back to Main Tutorials Page
