Early Years News
The Department for Education (DfE) has set up a consultation on the proposed model for introducing an experienced-based route for early childhood educators to gain approved status to work within child:staff ratios. This originates from a wider consultation about the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which was launched last year. The latest consultation is designed 'to test a proposed new model for the experience-based route, as well as proposed eligibility criteria and process requirements.' The DfE are 'seeking views to help us reach well-informed decisions.' You can find the Experienced-Based Route for Early Years Practitioners consultation here, and it closes on 20th May 2024.

In our May articles, Early Years teacher Ann-Marie Piper shares her experience of cultivating curiosity in young children. And book confidence coach and bestselling author Winsome Duncan shares tips and support for parents, carers, or educators on how to go about publishing books by children.
Additions to our podcast conversations this month are a chat with manny, Joss Cambridge-Simmons, about the role of grandparents in the lives of children. And a conversation with producer Jen Redmond, trumpeter Sean Chandler, and BSL interpreter Lizzie Wharton, who have all been part of the CBeebies Musical Storyland series. As well as discussing the ideas behind the series and the teacher resources that accompany it, Sean shares his experiences as a DeaF musician. Get your voice heard – Tapestry 2024 survey
Tapestry’s annual survey is now live and is for everyone working in the early years and primary education sectors. It's quick to complete and we’d love to hear from you on topics such as the expanded offer for two-year-olds, how educators are using AI, and proposed Labour early years and education policies.
As in previous years, we use the findings in our articles, to support our public relations and marketing, and to help shape the development of Tapestry and the Foundation Stage Forum.
The survey should take 5-8 minutes to complete. To take part, please follow this link.
Tapestry Printed Journals
We’re excited to announce that settings and families can now order printed versions of children’s learning journals! Tapestry have teamed up with publisher Group Hugs who will be turning your children’s PDFs into beautiful printed journals.
For more information on this, check out Tapestry’s info site.
Wishing you all a safe and happy May
