The Foundation Stage Forum March Newsletter 2023

In Newsletters

Welcome to the FSF March newsletter.

Those working in the early years sector, and parents and carers with young children, will have been paying close attention to the recent Spring Budget. There were both funding and ratio announcements that will impact the sector and families, and policy and language that continues to direct the conversation heavily towards parent/carer employment rather than high quality child-centred early education. You can read more thoughts on the Chancellor’s measures in our latest Coffee Break.

New Content

In last month’s newsletter we mentioned that we’re planning some exciting changes to the FSF over this next year, in honour of 20 years of the Foundation Stage Forum! We’re busy working behind the scenes – but don’t worry, we’ll keep you posted. For now, you may notice the Forum areas have been streamlined to make them more manageable to navigate.  Find out more here.

Our new article this month finds Caroline Vollans taking a closer look at the Early Years Stronger Practice Hubs that are being formed as part of the Covid recovery programme. In our education podcast we chat with Suma Din about the importance of community-based centres in supporting families, and coming soon we speak with expert nanny Shada Lambert about being part of the ‘parenting team’ in a family. You can check out all our podcast episodes wherever you like to listen, or from this link.

And one more thing for your reading list: Stephen Kilgour, our SEND Advisor, has written a blog  What does inclusion mean to you? -  on Siren Films’ resources page.

At Tapestry HQ we have a new free to download resource. Written by Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist Carly Budd, A Beginner’s Guide to Developmental Play has been created to support families, childminders, nurseries and schools. Meanwhile, the beta version of the Online Register is now available - part of the ongoing development of Tapestry’s management system. You can find the Online Register within the ‘Booking’ feature.

Wishing you a safe and happy March.

Helen, Steve and all of us at the FSF and Tapestry
