Welcome to the FSF August newsletter

Early Years News

As we approach the end of August, all early years settings and childminders will be making sure they are familiar with the updated version of the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework, which will apply from 4th September 2023. Updates include changes to the minimum staff:child ratios for two-year-olds as well as confirmation on rules about childminder ratios.

A new coalition to advocate for the early years sector is being set up and is due to launch officially in early September. The Early Education and Childcare Coalition has been developed in response to the growing pressures faced by the sector and families. Hosted by the Women’s Budget Group, the UK’s leading feminist economics think tank, and funded by the Kiawah Trust, a charitable foundation that supports initiatives to tackle educational and gender inequality, the coalition is made up of 30 organisations. It aims to work with researchers, policy makers, and early years leading voices to shape the future of the sector.
