This course explores the development of gender identity, and what it means to be transgender. It considers the needs of young people who might identify as transgender, those who are questioning and exploring their gender identity, and those whose gender expression does not necessarily conform to traditional gender stereotypes. Guidance will be provided about how schools might support the development and wellbeing of these pupils, and might promote equality and increased awareness within the whole-school setting and wider school community. There will also be a focus on the relevant legislation, and the increasing research-base. A selection of resources will be provided, and further information, resources, organisations and support groups recommended.
