The FSF Bookshelf

The Snowy Day

In Bookshelf Stories for reading aloud

Summary

Peter woke up and looked out of the window. Snow had fallen during the night. It covered everything as far as he could see....

Review

For those of us growing up in the 1970s this was a 'staple' - for me it was my 'The Gruffalo' - yes I love it that much. I've asked Josie, who is 7 to review it for me...

"This is quite a funny book. I think it's funny because he walks with his feet out, like a duck. We think he's waddling! I think it was also funny because he put a snowball in his pocket and it melted and he was sad that it had gone. I think it would be a good book for children at Nursery and in Reception because from there on they might want to read chapter books - but they still might like it! I like the way Peter's wearing all the same colour and it's red and you can definitely see him in the snow. I like the picture where he has snow on his head - he's winking to try and keep the snow out of his eyes. I like it at the end when he is walking with his friend because at the start Peter wanted to play with the big boys but now he's got his own friend to play with".
