  1. I have just had a show round for a 1 year old where the parents have told me that they are against immunisations....I just wondered if any other settings have come across this.

My concerns are obviously for the children and staff currently in nursery and also how this could impact on the child. I was going to speak to the child's GP/Health Visitor or the Health Protection Agency but I'm really unsure?

    Any help please x

  2. We are in the process of settling in a child who is from Iran. He cannot speak or understand any english, however his parents can. His family speak Farsi - Persian.

Can anyone suggest any websites to translate Farsi to English so we can ease him into nursery gently. I have suggested to parents that they bring a family picture in and I am looking for some photo timetables etc?

    Any help welcomed :P

  3. I have just been though this as my Manager will be going on MAT Leave for 4 weeks. The Deputy Manager does not have to have Level 3. My Deputy will be qualified in April as a Level 3 and they have told me that she can stand in for the Manager provided there is another Level 3 person in the nursery, which there are 2. Hope this does not confuse you further. The lady at OFSTED actually checked with an inspector too!

  4. Hi,

    Sorry about the subject matter!!!

Not posted in a while but does anyone have a policy on Sickness & Diarrhoea for staff as it's the biggest excuse for time off in our nursery because of the 48 hour rule. How do you deal with this in your setting?

We have the policy of 48 hours but wonder if any settings ask for a doctors note or ask staff to provide a sample to prove they are clear of infection etc??

    Here's hoping !

  5. Hi,

In my opinion withholding food can be classed as a form of child abuse.

I think a child should taste the food (at least) and then decide if they want it or not, as apparently a child has to try the food more than 10 times to establish if they like it or not.

The parents should then be asked should their child still be given dessert if they do not eat or even taste their dinner. Perhaps setting up a food star chart so you can establish what kinds of food they prefer and offering them a sticker to at least try it?

A sandwich / cracker etc as a quick alternative can be made in seconds but surely it is best practice to ask how their parents handle this issue......a starving child = not best practice

  6. Hi all,

I've not updated on here for a while so hope you are all well!

I would just like to ask what everyone's policy is on Sickness Reporting.

In my new Sickness Policy (let me know if you wish to see it) I ask that staff ring in at least 2 hours before your shift is due to start if they are sick and on return to work I ask that they ring before 6pm the day before their return? I also ask that the person themselves rings rather than a partner or sister etc.

I have been greeted with some dismay as this means some staff are having to ring in by 6pm (daycare). However, in my defence certain members of staff (previously) have been taking the mick so this policy has been devised to target those.

Some members of staff are refusing to sign the new policy/procedure and I would like to see how other nurseries address this issue with their staff.

    Regards

    Sharon :o

  7. Hi Everyone,

This may seem like a silly question but I would be interested in the replies...... :o

Our Baby Room is 12 places and at the moment the Nappy Changing Facilites are not in the same room (next door) as the Babies so this means when staff are changing nappies we are 1 member down.

My question is how do other settings approach this?

Do you have separate facilities or is your nappy changing area in the same room?

Staff in the Baby Room have asked can the nappy changing area be brought into the room?

Just wondered if we moved our air freshener and ensured that the blinds were shut, would this be enough privacy and there is also hygiene to consider?

    Your thoughts please
