We are seeking an experienced Deputy Manager to work in our village preschool.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard working individual, who is passionate about young childrens education and care.

Main duties will include:

1. To share in the responsibility, alongside the Manager, to ensure that the Preschool plans an appropriate play based Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum that enables children to make individual progress.

2. To deputise and lead the Pre-school in terms of planning and deployment of staff when the Manager is not present.

3. To act as a key person to a small group of children, recording observations and liaising closely and building an effective relationship with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met.

4. To work in partnership with the manager to update and review policies and procedures in line with Preschool development and self-evaluation.

5. Work in partnership with parents/carers and other family members. To work with other health and educational professionals as required.

6. To actively participate at team meetings, supervisor meetings and appraisal meetings.

7. To attend training courses as required and to take responsibility for your own continuous professional development.

8. To ensure that adequate records are kept and updated regularly, including children’s files, daily attendance register, and accident and incident books.

9. To promote the preschool to current parents and potential customers.

10. To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Pre-school Manager, in accordance with the setting’s business plan/objectives.

This job description is not an exhaustive list of duties and the post holder will be required to undertake any other reasonable duties discussed and directed by the line manager.

Person specification

Essential criteria

1. Level 3 or above early year’s education and childcare qualification.

2. 2 years’ experience in a Preschool setting

3. A strong, comprehensive knowledge of the EYFS.

4. Willingness to learn.

5. Knowledge of safeguarding procedures.

6. Good communication skills.

7. An understanding of play based approaches to children’s learning and development.

8. Commitment to equal opportunities.

9. Commitment to working effectively with young children and families.

10. Friendly and flexible approach at work which facilitates the development of effective relationships.

11. Current paediatric First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain one.

Desirable criteria

1. Level 4 or above in relevant Early Years Education.

2. Relevant SENCO training.

3. A knowledge of ‘In the moment’ planning.

4. Willingness to undertake further training.
