We have a strict social networking policy, if you go ahead and do a page as long as it's done right at the start then it will only add to your settings communication methods. When setting up a page you can choose what type of page you want so can people just like the page and that's it or do you have to say they can like the page. You can also opt for other features such as to not allow others to comment or post on the page. We only put on what we send out through our texting service and then a few links to say our website and our LA free entitlement calculator etc, we choose to only put setting images on not any of children. We thought long and hard about what we wanted to get out of it and what parents/carers needed to get out of it, we had discussions around people posting slanderous comments etc so think outside the box about what could possibly happen and what measures you want to put in place (bit like a risk assessment lol) also don't flood it with updates then nothing for weeks keep it manageable so for instance we only do one post per week/fortnight.

A good, well managed page that incorporates existing communication methods will only be positive thing.

Mundane you have some good points hence the reason for doing things in lots of Wat. We have a closed group just for information eg it's half term next week. I do not put photos on ir talk about what we have been doing we have other methods for that. Blog on website which is password protected. Pictures on wall of weekly activities and individual learning journals.

We have a facebook and it is an open page which anyone can "like" the page and our updates will come up in their newsfeed.. We never use any names and we post updates of activities we have done each day and any upcoming events. I also post pictures on the facebook of activities done that day, they never include any childrens faces..for example we made our own moon dough and i took close up pictures of the childrens hands making shapes in the moon dough so no one could ever be identified. Its really good as the facebook is also connected to our website front page so anything I post will also come up on our website so if parents dont have facebook they can still see it!
