This course gives an overview and an awareness of how medications are administered, but does not substitute training in how to give them according to the child’s individual health care plan.
Awareness of Bedford Borough Council Document "Guidance on managing medicines in schools and early year’s settings" (adapted from the DfES guidance Management Medicines in Schools and Early Years Settings 2005).
The need to establish the following procedures: Administering, Self management, Refusal, Storage and disposal. Record keeping and Insurance.
Raise awareness of common medical conditions and the implications to children e.g. Asthma and Diabetes, which will include what they are, how to recognise symptoms and awareness appropriate emergency procedures.
Increase and clarify knowledge about these conditions.
Provide the confidence to manage these conditions safely.
Any member of staff responsible for the Administration of Medicines in schools and early years settings.
